Homework Assignment #4:  WPA Poster Analysis

Choose one of the attached sets of WPA posters to analyze.  Drawing on evidence from the set of posters, answer the following questions in as much detail as possible:

1)  Dr. Singh has noted that the WPA employed artists to create art that benefited the public.  What public concern does your selected poster set address?  In other words, what social and economic problems might admonitions regarding worker safety and advertisement of low-cost housing solve?

2)  What three conclusions can you draw about the historical significance of the posters you have selected for analysis?  What is your evidence for these conclusions?  In formulating your answer, you may draw on lecture notes, the video viewed in class, and the Polenberg and Leffler texts.

Bring your homework to class on Wednesday, January 26.
