This site was created as the final assignment for a literature course at the University of Washington.  The course, English 200, consisted of close readings and critical analysis' of literature from the Harlem Renaissance.

This site includes a Critical Analysis of chapter fourteen from Zora Neale Hurston's novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, with focus on the theme of gender roles and its significance to the novel.  There is also an Annotated Passage from chapter fourteen with interpretive commentary, links, and explanations to aid in understanding the text.  The Annotated Links and Credits, section lists some useful sites to visit in learning more about Zora Neale Hurston and Their Eyes Were Watching God.
