Homework and grading will be the same as last quarter: Homework will be assigned most every week, and will generally be due on Thursday. Homework scores will count for approximately 40-50% of the grade. You are encouraged to discuss problems with fellow students, or with me, but solutions must be your own work. There will be one midterm exam and one final exam. Exams will be closed book and closed notes.

Midterm exam: Thursday, May 6.

Final exam: Monday, June 7, 10:30-12:20

Tentative Syllabus:

Waveguides and cavities.

Special relativity and covariant formulation of E&M. Tensors, Lorentz transformations, field strength and stress-energy tensors.

Radiation and scattering. Fields of moving charges, angular and frequency distribution, multipole radiation.

Relativistic dynamics. Cherenkov, synchrotron, & bremsstrahlung radiation. Radiation reaction.
