In pairs you will choose a topic relating to the Web and you will present it in class. The presentation will be at the beginning of the class session and will last about 20-30 minutes.
You should give an overview of the topic and discuss how the topic relates to the "big picture" of the Web and information science.
Prepare a Web-page and a handout for the class, include key points and references. Your presentation and the handout should be availabe in electronic form to include in the class web site.
Some topics to get you start thinking about are:
- Web Browsers: Netscape, Internet Explorer
- Portals
- E-commerce
- Web Security, encryption
- GIS on the Web
- Information retrieval on the Web
- Web accessibility issues
- Privacy issues
- Design issues
Please consult with me about topics as you go along dont leave for the last minute!
As you explore Web resources keep track of the URLs and your evaluation / comments for each of them.
In class each of you will present two websites (one
good and one bad example) and critique them regarding topic, design,
functionality, and usefulness.
