There are a number of deadlines during the quarter. Please contact me if you have any questions or if any conflicts occur.

Please supersede any delivery instructions on the forms with those here on the course site.

Assignment 1: Learning Objectives

As you prepare your learning objectives agreement for your DFW, please note that the evidence/criteria for evaluation are the tangible ways you will be assessed to receive credit for your fieldwork.  In some cases, you may provide examples of your work (virtual reference question log, sample cataloging records, etc.).  In other cases, you may be producing a document or artifact for the project itself (reading list, workflow diagram, training guide). 
 
These are the so-called "artifacts" that you will upload as the evidential output of your fieldwork experience, and in combination with your narrative at the end of the quarter, will be the basis for my review for the grade.  Not every learning objective has a direct product or example, but overall, something tangible should result.  Not only does this provide a way to assess your success, but gives you a lasting example of your work to compliment your resume.

Assignment 2: Midterm Report

Complete the midterm report with your supervisor and submit via Collect It drop box.  This is also an opportunity for you and your supervisor to make any mid-term corrections in learning objectives.  If you do make any adjustments to the learning objectives, please make sure I get a copy of the revisions.

Assignment 3: Narrative and Artifacts

Due Date: Friday, June 4

Create a narrative document describing and reflecting upon your field work experience, upload your artifacts to an online delivery mechanism and provide the URL of your delivery mechanism as a comment when you submit your narrative in Collect It.  This report is for your instructor and is not shared with the supervisor (unless you choose to do so).

Narrative

The narrative is both a descriptive and reflective response to your field work experience.  In a double-spaced document not to exceed four pages, report on your field work.  Begin the report with a brief (no more than several paragraphs) description regarding the host site and the work (tasks, projects) in which you engaged during your field work.  The rest of the report is a self-evaluation of and reflection on the experience.  Consider the following (not an exhaustive list):

Artifacts

Create an online delivery mechanism to collate and display your artifacts.  Submit the URL or other locator for your delivery mechanism as a comment when you submit your narrative to Collect It..  I will add the link to your student listing which is a secured site.

You may create a  simple webpage, a blog or other tool.  The artifacts are the deliverables related to your learning objectives described in your learning objective agreement.  You should include your learning objectives.  You may choose to keep a blog as an ongoing journal.   Think of how you would utilize this delivery mechanism as a showcase for potential employers and/or as support for your portfolio experience.

Instructions 

1. Go to Directed Fieldwork SharePoint . Use you full login as ischool\netid (utilizing your UW NetID). This is a secure site that only our iSchool students can access.

2. Select your site environment (Educational/Academic, Public, Corporate, Specialized (museum, archives, etc.)

3. Select NEW on the menu bar just above the content.

4. Add your information for your site.  The purpose is to briefly share your experiences and samples of your work with your peers.  You must choose the organization from an authority list, so if your organization is not in the list, contact me and I will add it.

5. Submit confirmation of completion via email.

Debrief

I will review your narrative, artifacts and supervisor's evaluation and send you feedback.  You are welcome to meet with me to debrief after your fieldwork experience is complete.  This is optional.  If you would like to chat, please contact me to set up a time to meet or speak over the phone.

Grading

LIS 590 is a Credit/No Credit course. Students must successfully complete all assignments in order to receive credit for the course.
