Week 4: Willapa Bay. Janet was kind enough to host us at her fabulous bungalow, which we used as our home base. Looking back towards Janet's house as we began a long trek out to the eelgrass beds. The gang starts the walk. Invasive Microciona sponge. We nade it out to the channel marker and the fun begins. Dungeness everywhere!

Clinocardium everywhere. Clinocardium. We finally found the Zostera, including a non-native species, Z. japonica. Once we started digging, the diversity of what we found went up exponentially! (Saccoglossus) Shawna was a ringer for clam digging. Leia got the hang of it...

Janet's granddaughter was great at digging holes... and building mud castles with the spoils! We hit a dense area of ghost shrimp (formerly Callianassa now Neotrypaea) One of thousands of photos of Neotrypaea. The gang at work. Channels through the vast mud flat.

On the bay there is an abandoned oyster farm. We found a surprising diversity of fish, and many life stages. Fish. Fish. Fish. After hours of hunting, it was time to turn back.
