Fish of the Puget Sound |
Introduction to Local Species Puget Sound is home to more than 70 families of fish, representing all three classes and 27 orders4. There are more than 900 species of fish living along the Pacific Coast5. A trip to your local rocky intertidal zone can give a fascinating glimpse into the world of tidepool fishes; to see some of the larger, bolder ones, diving gear is required. The fish contained in this website are primarily common rocky intertidal species, and will be easily observed by an afternoon on the Sound or outer coast, turning over rocks (always turn them back!) and sitting patiently by isolated pools. |
