Dendraster excentricus

Identification
Dendraster are round, and range in color from greyish to blackish. They are typically found in soft sediment. Dendraster has an aristotle's lantern like other members of the Echinoidea class, but it is modified (Kozloff 1973). This individual was found in a sandy tide pool at Fox Island, Wa.

Feeding
Dendraster is a detritus feeders that use the cilia on the underside of their bodies to bring the food to their mouth (Kozloff 1973).
