Common Name:  Mossy Chiton

 

Reaches lengths of 8 cm

 

Girdle has stiff hairs or bristles

 

Most likely of the chitons to have barnacles, algae or hydroids growing on its plates

 

Similar in appearance to M. ciliata and M. lignosa

 

Habitat:  Rocky low to mid-intertidal zones

 

Range:  Alaska to Baja California

 

Diet:  Various types of algae

 

Found:  Cattle Point, Rialto Beach, Salt Creek, and Argyle Creek
