Pagurus sp.

Hermit crabs use shells to provide them shelter and protection.  This hermit crab was found at North of Hole in the Wall on the Olympic Coast.  There were a lot of the hermit crabs congregating under rocks in the high intertidal area.  This hermit crab was one of the largest are was trying to transfer into another shell.  He had very large red antennae and was about 1 inch long.
