"Mechanics of Automated 3D Microscopy for Early Cancer Detection"
ABSTRACT
An optical projection tomography microscope has been developed
which can be thought of an
optical CT-scanner of cells and bare nuclei within a microfluidics
chamber. The mechanics
involved are cell biomechanics during automated cell preparation, the
fluid mechanics of cells
within small capillaries that are constantly rotated, and the
opto-mechanics of imaging across
360 degrees with sub-micron error. The challenge is to make this
current prototype system a
high-throughput instrument for lung cancer screening.
