Course Description

This course provides an overview of the emerging field of public health informatics (the application of information technology to improve public health practice, research and learning). The course covers core public health topics including: epidemiology, environmental health, health policy, community assessment and international health. Key informatics challenges and IT applications for these core public health areas are explored. Specific informatics topics include: public health data and vocabulary standards, health data privacy and security, interoperability and data integration. The course is designed for graduate students in biomedical health informatics, information science, and public health.
