Course Description

This one quarter elective course covers the chemical and biochemical methodology used in clinical laboratory testing and the interpretation of test results. Subjects include hematology, serology, blood chemistry and serum enzymes, electrolytes and blood gases, organ and endocrine function tests, urinalysis, OTC diagnostics, drug level monitoring and pharmacogenomics. The objective of the class is to provide a foundation in basic laboratory diagnostics and patient monitoring. The course content is designed for second year pharmacy students who will be entering the therapeutics sequence the following quarter.
