" I am a respiratory and critical care physician here at the
University of Washington where I have been on the faculty for 18
years. I taught at Brown University before that and did all of my
post-graduate medical training at Boston University. I was a medical
student at the University of Washington and grew up in Seattle. My
role at the Medical School is as a clinician educator and spend most
of my time teaching medical students, interns, residents and pulmonary
and critical care fellows.
When not at the UW I spend time in my pottery studio. I have done
work in clay since I was in high school. I feel it is very important
for those involved in healthcare to have something very different
that they do outside of medicine. Healthcare, though tremendously
rewarding, is obviously stressful. Working with art, music, regular
sport or another activity is I find key and always advise students
who work with me to develop that interest now. "
