Carly Searles is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in the Medical Oncology Department of UW, a teaching associate, and currently on the breast oncology staff at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Her B.A. (on the interface of religion and science) is from Carleton College, and her B.S.N. (nursing) is from Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse before going on for a N.P. and Master’s degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She has worked in a variety of settings and with women of many ages and cultures, ranging from Planned Parenthood to HMOs to private practice. She was a clinical liaison for the Women’s Health Initiative, a national study of the hormonal and nutritional health of postmenopausal women, and is certified as a menopause clinician with the North American Menopause Society. In 2003, Carly completed both the Professional and the Advanced Professional Training program in Mind/Body Medicine at the Center for Mind Body Medicine, and has since been applying mind/body skills for both her patients and herself, finding these to be immensely valuable in providing health care for the whole person.
