Welcome to the UW Mini-Medical School!

UW Medicine is dedicated to improving the health of the public by advancing knowledge of the biomedical sciences. We continually seek ways to accomplish this mission and to inform the public of our progress. One of our most exciting community outreach programs is the UW Mini-Medical School.

The UW Mini-Medical School is a series of classes designed to teach participants about medical science, patient care and cutting-edge research under way at the University of Washington. In this series, participants will learn firsthand about health-care issues important to them and their families. Top physicians in their respective fields will present engaging lectures and intriguing demonstrations. We hope to share some unique, and possibly challenging, medical perspectives and to leave participants better informed, not only for the benefit of their own health, but also with greater insight into the University of Washington's leadership in health care.

We welcome all those participating in Winter 2005 series beginning Feb. 8. Through efforts such as Mini-Medical School, we, as physicians and teachers, empower and invite our patients and the community to join in the fascinating exploration and application of the biosciences.

Paul G. Ramsey, M.D.
Vice President for Medical Affairs and
Dean of the School of Medicine, University of Washington
