To accommodate 180 students per year and give everyone a
good learning experience, we will be using community neurologists
and non-Seattle WWAMI sites in addition to the core hospitals:
University, Harborview, and VA. Some of the best learning
may be out in the community where one-on-one teaching will
be the model. Pediatric neurology will remain available as
an elective.
If you have a site preference or special needs, please let
us know. We will make every effort to accommodate your first
choice and specific situation (i.e. transportation, child
care, etc.), but no guarantees can be made as spaces are limited
at each site.
For some sites, housing will be provided and mileage reimbursed.
The clerkship coordinator will notify you of housing and mileage
arrangements if applicable to your assigned site.
It is the student's responsibility to call the clerkship
site prior to the first day to confirm a meeting place, time,
dress code, and any special requirements. Many sites require
you to complete hospital forms or to provide other documentation
before you will be able to see patients. Any such requirements
are listed on the site pages below.
You should have a stethoscope, reflex hammer, tuning fork
(128Hz), and name tag on the first day. All clinics will have
oto-ophthalmoscopes available, but you will probably want
your own for seeing patients on the wards. A "pocket"
syllabus will either be handed out on the first day or sent
in the mail. A printable (PDF) version is also available on
the Pocket Syllabus page.
