Case Studies

These four case studies will be the framework for classroom discussion and student evaluation. Each student will be responsible for individually completing each case study.

We will devote approximately one hour to each case study during class time.  Please see the syllabus for the dates that each case will be discussed.  Each student will be part of a group that will be responsible for presenting one case and leading the discussion about the case.  Presenters will:

  • Briefly outline the pertinent information in the case.
  • Present growth or weight gain grids.
  • Present analysis of food records, lab tests, or anthropometric data.
  • Lead a discussion of the about each case that includes responses to the questions included with each case description.
  • Students are expected to hand in or email written copies of drafts of the case studies on the dates that the cases are discussed in class. Students will be able to submit final copies of the cases one week after the case is discussed in class. Failure to turn in assignments on time will result in a 10 point deduction from the total score.

Students are expected to provide up-to-date, evidence-based references to support answers to each of the case questions. Suggested references are listed at the end of each case study, and students will find most of what they need to provide informed answers to case study questions in these designated references.
