Course Goals & Objectives
Goals include:
- Support student efforts to set personal goals for professional
excellence.
- Students will gain
knowledge, skills and competency on the association between nutrition and
the development and management of chronic disease.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this
course the student will be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to critically review research on nutrition and
chronic disease.

Discuss the role of nutrition in the etiology of chronic disease.

Identify nutrition strategies to diminish the incidence of chronic disease
from evidence based medicine and evidence based public health practice.

Identify appropriate dietary interventions for the management of chronic
disease, the prevention of disease progression and comorbidities.

Integrate nutrition into current health care models that value the
interdisciplinary team.

Compare and critique diet assessment methodology
-
Recognize the individual client as the center of the health care team.
Support recognition of cultural and ethnic diversity.

Demonstrate skills in the consensus process and translation of evidence into
policy.

convenience when available. See the
notes web page for specific information. The instructor will provide the user name
and password to the students on the first day of class. Please note, not all presentations may be
available for posting to the web. It
is the student's responsibility to take notes.

The schedule of topics may vary from the initial
posting. The instructor will notify
students if the sequence of topics is changed. Readings are drawn from the most current
literature and therefore students should consider not printing out the
readings more than one week before the topic.
