Nobody comes to Bamfield by mistake.
Everyone must must drive The Road.
The Road is gravel, potholes, logging trucks and potholes.
The Road is 73 km, 2 hours.

Today I got an email from the hostel we reserved in Chile thanking us for our business followed by a statement saying something along the lines of “I hope you enjoyed your stay”. We did not make it to Chile, nor receive our $35 deposit back from the hostel after canceling our reservations.

After their first day out on the ship, the students on the second leg of the trip had many hours of lab work in the evening. Everyone caught a few moments of rest during the second day of field work.

The day started with the annoying noise of an alarm quickly followed by confusion brought on by getting up before 7am during spring break. On day four of sampling we returned to Effingham inlet to try more sediment coring. Everyone’s skills improved with every coring attempt as we learned how fast and from which height to drop the long tube into the bottom.
