DH Tools [Databases,db analysis, db visualization]

  1. RRF: GOAL develop a model of BAKI data;
  2. RRF: SELECT small subset of BAKI material for analysis;
  3. RRF: IDENTIFY techology/(ies) for collecting/organizing data, e.g. online data entry tools, major data elements, data formats (XML, other?), data sharing tools, etc.;
  4. REF: DEVELOP a short list of desired outputs for testing;
  5. RRF: BUILD/TEST structured data examples for utility in extracting information;

Reverse Transcription Tool: Consistent and uniform transcription/encoding of Ottoman Arabic texts in Latin and other alphabets via programmatic conversion

  1. CURRENT: Web based, HTML/PHP/TXT CGI interface for direct entering of Latin character-based, plain ASCII texts which are converted to Arabic script, Cyrillic, XML and other scripts/formats/encodings;
  2. CURRENT: Improperly/incompletely accounts for 16c (1526-1600) Ottoman Turkish Arabic script possibilities when coverting from Latin: incorrect conversions, missing conversions, conflicting/overlapping convesions;
  3. RRF: EXTEND existing RTT to handle BAKI (16c) material by completeing an analysis of orthographic features of BAKI period texts prior to start of RRF;
  4. RRF: CREATE/DOCUMENT a downloadable version of the current HTML/TXT/PHP RRT for use by individuals on local systems (OSX, Windows 10, linux);
  5. RRF: EXTEND functionality of RRT to support user modified/created transcription schemes by the online tool;
  6. RRF: COMPLETE preliminary analysis of major linguistic features of language periods to extend RRT capability to handle most Ottoman texts: e.g. pre-14c, 15c, 16c, 17-19c, 19-20c, basis for future RRT development and ensure extensibility of basic RRT design features;

[RRF MANAGEMENT: What is the role of management in the RRF project? Are there sufficient RRF funds to support separate management positions?]

[RRF RESOURCES: What resources will be required to complete the work of the RRF? Computers/laptops? Working/Meeting space? Data/tool development/delivery platform and archiving?]
