NME 321 – Paper Assignment

Impact of Nanoscience and Molecular Engineering on our Society and our Ethical Standards

 

Deadline:        May 18, 2018

Submission:   Electronically to nanolab@u.washington.edu

                       with only the student ID in the subject field

 

On time submission is required for obtaining course credit. Late submissions are not accepted.

 

Paper Content and Guidelines

This is an individual assignment that is composed of two parts:

 

Part A: Based on the open literature write a minimum of four pages total on three of the following aspects:

- Is ethics unique to nanotechnology?

- Hazard assessment of nanomaterials

- Safety, patients and patents

- Nanomedicine and society

- The ethics of synthetic biology

 

You can use the publications that are linked to these aspects, but you might also want to check the open literate (e.g., WEB of Science, through the UW library portal). You need to reference a minimum of 5 publications (but not more than 10). Format style (example): D.B. Knorr, R.M. Overney, Cooperative and submolecular dissipation mechanisms of sliding friction in complex organic systems, J. Chem. Phys. 129, 074504 (2008).

Illustrations are welcome but should not exceed half a page in total.
