  2. Assigned friday October 14, Due Friday, October 21 by 5 pm.
    a)  Solve the diffusion equation for circular islands to get a rough, dimensionally correct estimate of the average nucleation density of islands on a surface in the limit where all the nucleation occurs by 2 adatoms colliding on a terrace.  It depends on the ratio of flux to diffusion constant.
    b)  Solve a simple model for the introduction of misfit dislocations in strained layer epitaxy.
