Kate Quinn was the lead person at UW for implementing a Sloan-funded program called Balance@UW, on work-life balance policies and their usage. She suggests the following readings. She would like you to think about how effective you think the sort of competition that Sloan organized is for changing policy and/or climate. Also, does it matter is schools have policies if everyone is afraid to use them? Is the benchmarking data from the Sloan study associated with the competition (we had to do this survey as part of the application, and only those who already showed a strong commitment would get funded) meaningful? If so, what does it mean?
