Upon graduating from UW’s Molecular and Cellular Biology graduate program in 2010, Dr. Ramirez joined the small, Seattle-based biotech RareCyte, whose mission is to understand how cancer cells spread through the blood and seed metastasis. Dr. Ramirez is currently working on a dual-platform technology that enables the purification, isolation and characterization of very rare cells in the bloodstream, with applications in cancer patient management. In his talk, Dr. Ramirez will recount his graduate school career, provide insight on how he landed his first (and only) job in biotech, and describe what research is like at a small biotech startup
