Exams & Tests

Exams will be given during regular class time on the dates shown on the syllabus.

All exams will be multiple choice. YOU must bring a standard mark-sense sheet (may be purchased at U Bookstore) and a #2 pencil. We do not keep a supply of sheets, so please do not forget!

Exams will all be one class hour (50 min) in length.

We will apply a 'curve' grading scheme to convert your exam score into a 0.0-4.0 grade, so each exam grade reflects your performance relative to your fellow students. In this way all exams should be equivalently graded. At the end of the term, we will drop your lowest exam grade. (Of course, everyone else gets the same break.)

If you take both exams, you have a chance to improve your grade. If you miss either exam for any reason, that will be your dropped grade, and you lose nothing but the chance to improve your grade. For this reason, you do not need to call in advance or supply an excuse to miss one exam, and there will be NO MAKEUP EXAMS. Please don't call or send me excuses!

If you miss both exams, you will receive an incomplete (I) grade for the course, with a default grade calculated using 0.0 for the missed exams. If you do nothing, the backup grade is automatically recorded at the end of next term. To clear your "I" grade and replace the default grade, you will have to take a comprehensive exam early next term (at a time TBD by me).
