H3.1 (a) Find an approximate expression for the thermal conductivity of an ideal gas in terms of f, kB, m, σ, and T, defined as in the book, with σ being the collision cross-section. Check the dimensions. (b) The probability distribution of distances x between consecutive collisions for a gas molecule is p(x) = A exp(-x/l), where l is a constant. Find A. Find the mean free path <x> and the root-mean-squared free path <x2>1/2. Why are they not equal?
