Return to main homework page

Homework and recitations set 5 - homework due Friday May 2

Homework
9.31 - Coaxial transmission line.  ALSO: find the impedance Z of the line.
10.2 - Consider energy flow for a planar time-dependent potential
10.3 - Find the fields for a spherically symmetric vector potential
10.5 - Example of change of gauge
10.6 - Determine either Coulomb or Lorentz gauge

Recitations
10.1 - Demonstrate symmetry of equations for the potentials
10.4 - Find the fields for a travelling wave vector potential
10.7 - Show that you can always use the Lorentz gauge

Bonus
B5.1 - Show that G(r,t) = δ(t ± r/c)/r satistfies the defining equation for the
Green function of the d'Alembertian, ie, ☐2G(r,t) = δ3(r)δ(t).  Also, carry
out the integration and differentiation in Griffiths example 10.2.
