QSCI 381B: Introduction to Probability and Statistics |
Prerequisites Either MATH 120, a score of 2 on advanced placement test, or a score of 67% on the MATHPC placement test The laboratories and homework assignments require knowledge of EXCEL. Grading Weekly homework assignments (8 best of 9): 30%, two mid-term
tests: 30%; final examination: 40%. The tests and examinations are
closed book, but students will be permitted to bring one page
(single-sided) of notes to tests and the examination, and will be
provided with tables of critical values of tests for the 2nd
test and the examination. A scientific calculator is required for the
tests and the examination. The final examination will be held at the
time indicated by the University. The final grade for QSCI 381 is based
on the combined score: 95 (4.0), 90 (3.9), 85
(3.7), 80 (3.4), 75 (3.1), 70 (2.7), 65 (2.3), 55 (1.9), 50 (1.0),
<50 (0.0) A penalty of 10% of the awarded score will be deducted for
homework assignments that are submitted late but within 24 hours of the
deadline, and a penalty of 20% of the awarded score will be deducted
for homework assignments that are submitted 24 - 48 hours late. A zero
score will be awarded for any homework assignments submitted more than
48 hours late. Talk to the instructor regarding exceptions to these
rules. Plagiarism,
cheating, and other misconduct are serious violations of the student
conduct code. We expect that you will know and follow the UW's policies
on cheating and plagiarism. Any suspected cases of academic misconduct
will be handled according to UW regulations. More information,
including definitions and examples, can be found in the Faculty
Resource for Grading and the Student Conduct Code (WAC 478‐120). Students are encouraged to check
homework solutions with each other. However, the submitted assignements
MUST not be identical (i.e. you may not solve problems as a group and
submit the same solution). A zero score will be awarded to all students
who submitt homework assignments that are "substantially" the same.
