Office Assistant / Special Projects

Location: Rare Care office, Seattle, Washington; some projects may be done on home computer
Time: year-round on as-needed basis, usually weekdays between 9am and 5pm

Assist Rare Care staff with a variety of office projects that support the rare plant monitoring and seed collecting programs. Projects may include rare plant literature research, mailings or digital image labeling and filing. Strong computer and organizational skills are a plus.

Seeds of Success Collector

Location: western and central Washington
Time: spring, summer, fall on as-needed basis

Collect seeds from wild populations of native plants to contribute to the Kew Millennium Seed Bank at the Royal Botanic Gardens, England. Seed collections also increase the number of species and the amount of native seed available for use in stabilizing, rehabilitating and restoring public lands. Volunteers participate by locating suitable populations for collection, or by assisting Rare Care staff with seed collections in the field. Collections require walking on uneven terrain and hiking 1 to 3 miles.

Celebrating Wildflowers

Location:  Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle, WA
Time: One weekend day each May or June

Do you enjoy working with people and sharing your enthusiasm for native plants? Join Rare Care staff and volunteers in hosting our annual outreach event. Celebrating Wildflowers fosters an appreciation of plants in children and build the public’s awareness of plant conservation issues. Volunteers lead activities, conduct native plant tours at the park, and assist with set-up and dismantling the day of the event.
