Class room Policy

Cell Phones

Students have the right to know that I hate cell phones!
Students, of course, know they have the right to own them and
take them to class. But they should know that if they ring in
class that is disruptive to learning,
both for their neighbors and themselves.
Instructors have the right to put a stop to disruptive
elements in class so:
Turn cell phones off when you come to QSci 291!

Calculators

This course primarily covers the ideas of calculus and deal with symbolic
manipulations that can be done on pencil and paper. There will be a few
things that will require some numerical calulations. A simple hand calculator
should suffice for these operations. Calculus, by and large, is about
functions which can be represented as graphs. Thus, if you know how to use
a graphical calculator more power to you. All calculators can be used
in quizes and exams. You cannot cheat with them however.
The most important thing to remember is that if you do not justify
HOW you get the answer, you will not get any credit,
even if the answer is right!

Repeating a Calculus Course

If you have already taken a calculus course and did well in it,
you should NOT be in this class!

Get a life! Why are you here? To improve your grade point average?
When you get into med school are you going to repeat the anatomy class
so your grades will be better to get a higher paying job! Come on!
The society you live in expects students to be challenged and to
grow intellectually by learning new things.
If you already know about calculus you are
wasting your time and the resources of the state.
