Location 地点

The University of Washington and the City of Seattle are an ideal setting in which to discuss sustainable urban development across the Pacific. The American Pacific Northwest has long been a pioneer in sustainable development policy and popular practice. Washington was the first state in the US to pass a law requiring state-funded buildings to meet national environmental standards. The King County and City of Seattle governments have led the nation in setting sustainable building policies and are successful living laboratories for strategies to reduce and prepare for global warming impacts in the US. The Puget Sound region also has a thriving economy that is deeply integrated with global trade and development, in particular, with China. The University of Washington has one of the oldest and most extensive China Studies programs in the US, and is unique among American universities in hosting this program through a collaboration of China Studies and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (soon to be renamed the College of Built Environments), the Pacific Northwest’s premier urban school of planning, design and construction and a partner of several Universities in China, including Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Sichuan University, and Chongqing College of Architecture and Urban Planning, China).
