Use of animal models is a controversial issue that requires understanding of both sides and seeing the ethical issues/concerns of it.

Pros: The two main benefits to using animals for experimentation
and research lead to benefits in medical advances including development of
vaccines, drugs, and antibodies.
Animal research is also beneficial as a teaching
tool. These results benefit
both humans and animals. |

There are two main objections to using animal models for research. One is the ethical side of killing animals for research. Do animals have rights? The other is the point that animals may not be a good tool for research and can give misleading results. |
