Flywheel and Crankshaft Removal - If Requested

  1. Remove the Flywheel start clutch using the large pipe pliers. Once loosened the retainer may be unscrewed in a counter clockwise direction as shown in the photos.

  2. Then use the rubber mallet if necessary to penalty tap the end of the Crankshaft on the same end as the Flywheel so that the Flywheel slides off the Crankshaft. This step may require more than one person to complete, do not hesitate to ask for assistance. When the Flywheel is removed ensure do not lose the small metal key that is in the key-way of the Crankshaft. At this point the Crankshaft will slide out of the Cylinder Block. Be careful not to scratch the bearing journal surfaces on either the crankshaft or the block.

 

At this point the dismantling portion of the lab is complete. All major components of the engine have been removed and can now be studied more closely.
