Engine Dissection Report
Report Content
Your engine dissection report should contain:
- original research on a topic associated with the engine dissection lab and
- answers to any related questions in the lab handout.
Your research topic may be related to any aspect of the engine
dissection lab that you wish to investigate. You should pick a topic
that you find both interesting and non-trivial. I have listed a few
ideas below, but you do not need to restrict yourself to these topics:
- What materials are used and why? (Material Science
Engineering/Chemical Engineering)
- What is the environmental impact of engine production and/or use
(Environmental engineering)
- How could you design a more environmentally-sound product?
(Environmental/Industrial Engineering)
- Is the design servicable? Is it an added-value design? (Industrial
Engineering)
- How could you improve the manual? (Technical Communications)
- How/where/why would this type of engine be used?
(Mechanical/Civil/Aeronautical Engineering)
- How would you improve the design of this engine? (Mechanical
Engineering)
Select one specific aspect in your area of interest. It is
better to thoroughly research a small topic than to superficially
research a large topic.
Report Guidelines
Your report should be turned in looking like a professional report. You
must use a word processor. The text should be no more than 5 pages
double-spaced using 1 inch margins and 12 pont type. The report should
contain at least two of the following items:
- Equations created using an equation editor
- Tables
- Simple computer-generated line drawings
- XY graphs imported from a spreadsheet
The space needed for tables or graphics is not included in the 5 page
maximum.
