SITE DESCRIPTION The North Beacon Timber Sale is located in Township 24/25 N, Range 3 W, which is located near the town of Hoodsport, WA. This is on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, near Hood Canal (See Figure 1). Figure 1. The North Beacon Timber Sale is located in the northeast corner of the Hoodsport project area, which is on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula. The sale area is roughly 100 acres in size with predominately moderate slopes. The entire Hoodsport area was heavily logged with railroads 60 - 70 years ago. There are four tree stands located within the planning area, all heavily dominated by Douglas Fir (See Figure 2). The average diameter at breast height (dbh) for the four stands ranges from 15 - 26 inches. The average tree height for the four stands ranged from 85 - 134 feet. Figure 2. There are four major tree stands in the North Beacon Timber Sale. They are all dominated by Douglas Fir, and are delineated by the township line, and the power line. The sale is complicated by the presence of a power line running along the east side of the area, and by three streams (See Figure 3). There are currently no roads in the area, but a road is planned. You can see the general layout of the setting, and the power line buffer in Figure 4, below.
