1.1 Director, Professor Peter Schiess The University of Washington Hoodsport Harvest Planning Project was under the direction of Professor Peter Schiess. Professor Schiess obtained his Ph.D. degree from the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington in 1975. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, Professor Schiess has played an important role in the development of the Forest Engineering curriculum at the University of Washington. He has research interests in mechanized harvest and cable thinning operations, and is currently researching timber harvest planning as a subset of landscape level analysis. Further information regarding Professor Schiess’s educational background, professional experience, and publications can be found at http://faculty.washington.edu/schiess/. 1.2 Assistant Director, Luke Rogers Luke Rogers, the Assistant Director to Professor Schiess, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering from the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington in 1998. Luke has recently been accepted to attend graduate school at the University of Washington. Luke has past engineering experience as a forest engineering intern with Weyerhaeuser Company, Cottage Grove, Oregon and Snoqualmie/White River in Washington. Special research interests are in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications in forested areas and in construction management. Further information regarding Luke Rogers educational background, professional experience, and related course work can be found at http://staff.washington.edu/~lwrogers/. 1.3 DNR Harvest Operations Engineer, Weikko Jaross Assisting in engineering design and acting as a liaison between the Forest Engineering Design Team and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Weikko Jaross received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington in 1996. Weikko is currently a graduate student at the University of Washington studying to obtain a Masters Degree in Forest Engineering. Special interests are in DNR GIS and familiarizing University of Washington Forest Engineering students with aspects of harvest operations. Further information regarding Weikko Jaross’s educational background, professional experience, and related activities can be found at http://weber.u.washington.edu/~weikko/. 1.4 University of Washington Silvicultural Specialist, Kevin Ceder Kevin Ceder is a senior in the Forest Management program expecting to graduate in December of 1999. He returned to school after a number of years working in the timber industry in a variety of jobs ranging from truck and equipment to truck driver to logger. His main interests are in silviculture primarily in the operational and economic feasibility of stand treatments. Upon graduation Kevin hopes to continue on to a masters program at Oregon State University. 1.5 University of Washington Forest Engineers

Further information about Alec can be found on his website: http://students.washington.edu/alec. 1.5.2 Tim Brown Tim Brown is a senior who will graduate in June of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering from the UW-College of Forest Resources. His degree emphasizes both environmental analysis and design and GIS/Remote sensing. He currently holds an A.S. in GIS from Green River Community College in Auburn, WA. He has recently been accepted to the UW—Forest Engineering/Hydrology graduate program and will enter during the autumn quarter of 1999. His interests are in GIS, hydrology, and stream ecology. Tim has supplemented his educational background with meaningful internships with the Boise Cascade Corporation and the Yakama Nation. Further information about Tim can be found on his website: http://students.washington.edu/tmbrown. 1.5.3 Eric Farm Eric Farm is a senior who will graduate in June of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering with an emphasis in environmental design. He is interested in slope stability issues as they relate to industrial operations and cost analysis. His experience is in industrial forest management/engineering. He has worked for the last four summers in the private industry laying out timber sales, roads, and collecting GPS data. Following graduation, Eric will commissioned into the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a Second Lieutenant. His first duty station will be Germany where he hopes to "Be all that he can be!" 1.5.4 Mark Ferry Mark Ferry is a senior at the University of Washington, College of Forest Resources and will be receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering in June of 1999. His areas of emphasis are in timber resource planning, road design, and environmental analysis. In August of 1997, he received his Associates in Arts and Sciences degree from Olympic Community College, Bremerton, WA, with emphasis in engineering. Previous engineering experience includes a summer internship working under the direction of a Professional Mechanical Marine Engineer, followed by a summer of field engineering for the Center for Streamside Studies, University of Washington. Mark’s future goals after graduation are to obtain a Professional Engineering License and return to school for a degree in higher education. 1.5.5 Vanessa Hostetter Vanessa Hostetter is a Senior Forest Engineering student at the University of Washington. She expects to graduate in June of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering with an emphasis on environmental analysis.
