Configuring the CalComp 9100 DrawingBoard II and III Digitizer
for ArcMap 9.0 using XP

The CalComp 9100 DrawingBoard II and III digitizer includes a wireless or wired mouse, power cord, and serial cable. Be sure to check that the batteries are working on the wireless because the digitizer will not work if the wireless mouse is not responding.  Also make sure that the computer port on the computer you will be hooking the digitizer up to is working.  Many headaches could have been avoided by checking two simple things.

   TabletWorks Setup (DO FIRST)

1.        Go to http://www.gtcocalcomp.com/supportcalcompsoftware.htm or search for the driver on http://www.gtcocalcomp.com/supportgtcocalcomp.htm.  The Driver is TW-10.0.0018.exe.  Make sure it is the serial version.

2.        Once installed, connect the power cord (DrawingBoard II connects to the board while DrawingBoard III connects to the serial cord), and the serial cord to COM 2.

3.        DO NOT PLUG IN THE MOUSE YET.  DrawingBoard II is picky.

4.        Turn on the DrawingBoard and restart the computer.

5.        Now plug in the mouse to the DrawingBoard

6.        The icon in the lower right should look like this.  If it has a line through it, the table is not sending a message.  Make sure you can hit the configure/exit button on the DrawingBoardIf you can not, turn the board off, unplug the mouse, turn the DrawingBoard back on, and plug the mouse back in.  Reset TabletWorks.  If still problems, contact CalComp customer support and tell them that is work before on XP.

7.        Right click on the TabletWorks icon and go to control Panel.

8.        Hit the Mapping tab and click Pick

9.        Use the DrawingBoard mouse and click on the upper right corner, (make sure the DrawingBoard button is solid, NOT BLINKING).

10.     Drag the mouse to the lower left corning and click again. (NO BLINKING)

11.     The numbers should be close to:

12.     Hit Apply and you should be about to move the DrawingBoard mouse and see the movements on the monitor.

13.     Check the Wintab button at the top to turn it on and click okay.

ArcMap Setup – This is tricky and may not make complete sense but it works.  Administrator may have

to do this.

15.     Restart the Computer

16.     Open ArcMap

17.     Go to the Editor dropdown and select options.

18.     The Digitizer tab should be there.  If it is not there, go to the next steps.  Overwise use ArcMap Help to figure out how to digitize.

19.     Go to tools->Customize and click the ‘Add from file’ button.

20.     Go to C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Bin and open digitizer.dll.  This will not work.  The error message will say ‘Can’t load type library from specified file.’  It is supposed to do this but for some reason it works is TabletWorks is working.

21.     Restart the computer.

22.     Open ArcMap

23.     Go to the Editor dropdown and select options.
