New York's Lower East Side Tenement Museum website is designed to inform visitors about the thousands of immigrants who came to 97 Orchard Street and began a new life in the United States. Through a series of audio clips, interactive floor plans, and history lessons, visitors experience the carefully restored apartments, dating back to 1863. The site's purpose is not only to inform its guests about this important moment in history, but also to fuse this history with today's current issues. The Museum supports k-12 educational program tours, community dialogue projects where residents representing over 20 nationalities commune to discuss immigration and migration, and supports artistic expression of diversity and tolerance. Art exhibits, theatre productions, film showings and readings are sponsored by the museum on a rotating basis throughout the year. In addition to its historic tours, the museum's website also functions as a business where visitors can purchase tickets, book tours, and become a member.
