EXERCISE: Intro to Illustrator


1. Create a new document using the print profile

2. Create a layer called “Shapes”

3. Create 2 of each shape type - 1 constrained with the shift key, 1 not constrained

4. Select all of your shapes, copy them and paste them onto a new artboard, in a new layer called “Attributes” Give each a different stroke color, fill color and stroke weight.

5. Select all of your original shapes and use the eye-dropper tool to give them the attributes of the shape you like best.

6. Create a layer called ”Text”

7. On this new layer, make labels for each of your original shapes with the name of the shape and whether it is constrained

8. In a new artboard, make a list of the names of 5 font families and make each item in the list that font

9. In the same artboard, create a polygon shape with 7 sides (make it big enough to fill it with text)

10. Use the “Area type tool” to type inside that shape

11. In the same artboard, create a polygon shape with 3 sides and use the type on a path tool to type around the edge of it

12. Create a new layer called "Paste Remembers Layers" and a new artboard

13. Copy one shape and its accompanying text and paste them into the artboard - once with "Paste Remembers Layers" turned on, and once with with it turned off (for this one, paste them into the "Paste Remembers Layers" layer

14. Make a screenshot of what you see when you’re zoomed to 3.5% - paste it on a layer called “Zoom out” and put it on its own artboard

15. Make a screenshot of what you see when you’re zommed to 6400%, paste it on a layer called “Zoom in” in its own artboard

FINAL PRODUCT: IntroToIllustrator.ai
