our perceptual abilities? How does research into environmental
perception differ from traditional perception research? (i.e.
what new dimensions does env'tal perception address?
2. What is environmental
cognition? What is its relationship to cognitive mapping?
What can cognitive maps tell us about the design of an environment?
About people and the way we think about our environment?
3. Define Lynch's notion of "legibility." What are
the elements of the designed environment that contribute to
a sense of legibility. Can you think of an example of a particularly
legible or illegible place? Explain why you identify it as
such.
