{"id":966,"date":"2017-08-19T12:21:40","date_gmt":"2017-08-19T12:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385\/?p=966"},"modified":"2017-08-19T12:21:40","modified_gmt":"2017-08-19T12:21:40","slug":"climate-complexity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385\/climate-complexity\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate Complexity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-967\" src=\"http:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/global-warming-image.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Earth&#8217;s climate systems are complex almost beyond comprehension. \u00a0The old saying that a butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the Earth creates a tornado on the other is true in many ways. \u00a0Unfortunately many climate change deniers will use this complexity as a way to support their indefensible beliefs. \u00a0We see many politicians in America using cop-out excuses like &#8220;i&#8217;m not a scientist&#8221;, or &#8220;the Earths temperature is always changing&#8221;. \u00a0Although we don&#8217;t understand everything about how the Earth&#8217;s climate operates, this does not give us the excuse to ignore obvious changes in our global environment. \u00a0The global scientific consensus is that the Earth&#8217;s climate is heating up and is more than likely caused by human action. \u00a0If we choose to ignore this fact because we don&#8217;t fully understand it, we will be ignoring possibly the most significant existential threat that we face as a global community. \u00a0Our nation&#8217;s leaders too often make the irresponsible claim that there is nothing we can do, or that short-term economic interests are more important than the long-term health of our planet. \u00a0I hope for our future generations that we can come together and face this global crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>image citation:\u00a0Weather Channel Co-Founder Denies Climate Change.
