The commercial showed a couple who met and bonded over their love of Doritos, only to eventually visit where Doritos are made and instead of seeing something wonderful and heavenly like they expected, came face to face with the deforestation their yummy little chips were causing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-242\" src=\"http:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1-624x416.jpg 624w, https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GP0STO8YO-1.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Forests cleared for oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, Doritos are not the only food that is manufactured and processed that is bad for our planet. Any type of packaged and processed food is not great for the environment because of the energy-intensive production processes, the plastic packaging, not to mention the added chemicals that are not good for us or for the planet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-243\" src=\"http:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Autoimmune-diseases-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Autoimmune-diseases-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/courses.washington.edu\/ps385s18\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Autoimmune-diseases.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking back at Michael Pollan\u2019s book after watching that video, I think an\u00a0obvious yet interesting connection can be made: the foods that are bad for us are also bad for the planet. Just as Doritos aided in deforestation, the bowl of cereal you ate this morning might not be much better. This might seem obvious, but it\u2019s hardly something I have ever thought in depth about. Like Michael Pollan says, \u201cEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants\u201d.
