Section 1: Introduction (Lite)

The Battle of Hampton Roads was the first battle between ironclad warships. On the first day of battle, the CSS Virginia (often referred to as the Merrimack or Merrimac) showed her superiority to wooden-hulled vessels. On the second day, the Virginia and the Union ironclass USS Monitor fought to a stand-off.
