Mammals
The National Zoo exhibits many wonderful mammals, both large and small.
Big Cats
The Great Cats exhibit on Lion/Tiger Hill features Sumatran tigers and African
lions: living, breathing, roaring great cats. They are ambassadors for their wild relatives,
and for the Zoo's conservation and science initiatives for tigers, lions, and many other cats,
which, even if not great in size, are still great!
Great Apes
Great apes and other primates can be seen both indoors and outdoors in several locations at the
Zoo. The Great Ape House is home to western lowland gorillas and orangutans. The house is about
mid-way on Olmsted Walk, between the Small Mammal House and the Reptile Discovery Center.
Think Tank is home to Sulawesi macaques. See the table below for all the Zoo's exhibits
where primates can be found.
