Bone Remodeling Animations

Directions for downloading, getting permission, and using animations

The first set of animations are based on histomorphometric measurements, where the mineralized bone is green and the osteoid is red. The volume, surfaces, and formation rates are drawn to scale. The darkness of the green is meant to show approximate mineralization density but is not directly related to the density measurements.

These remodeling animations are consolidated here into one flash file. This can be saved for off-line viewing but you need to download the main file plus each individual .swf file and keep them together in the same folder. I also have a powerpoint slide presentation that shows the remodeling files, which might work if you just download the presentation but (depending on your system) may require you to download the individual .mov files and put them in the same folder. (the file names are a little quirky)

Here is also a copy of a cartoon animation of the overall remodeling sequence at one BMU . This one is not to scale but does show the details of origination as we know it. More information on the physiology page.
