- junior, senior, or graduate student ranking or permission of the instructor

- freshman-level chemistry, physics, biology or other core-science courses highly recommended but not required

- preference will be given to students with a demonstrated academic interest in the science and engineering of water systems

Students from Jordan: Please conact Dr. Muna Abu-Dalo for information about the program sponsored by JUST.

Students from US institutions or wanting UW credit: All applications from US students must be submitted through the UW study abroad office. The application consists of signature documents, recomendations, and short essays. To help you with the application process, these steps are described below. The same information is available on the on-line application found here.

Personal Statement:

Applicants will submit a statement (750-1,000 words) indicating their background and qualifications for studying and living abroad, their reasons for choosing this program or exchange, and the projected benefits of this experience to their course of study and long-term plans. Hint: While all majors are encouraged to apply, successful applications will specifically illustrate the benefits of a science-based course in water resource conservation, use, and recovery, particularly for students from majors that don't typically cover topics such as hydrology, wastewater treatment, or water treatment.

Short Answer Questions:

1) Financial statement. 3-4 sentences describing how the student plans to finance your foreign study experience. Items to consider are described here. For students eligible for financial aid, please check here for additional information.

2) Previous study abroad or foreign travel experience (4000 characters). Students describe their previous study abroad and/or travel, providing location, dates and purpose. Hint: Students should be honest and not exaggerate their experiences. This information is used to help plan orientation activities. All students, regardless of previous travel experience will be considered.

3) Group dynamics. The success of the Jordan program is largely dependent on the ability of the group to live and study with one another in harmony. Students should describe any prior experience in similar programs or group situations (e.g. working/living as a summer camp counselor or an extended "road trip" are both examples of group living), and how they have dealt with any difficulties that arose in this area?

Faculty Recommendations:

Applicants request recommendations from two faculty members or instructors that knows their academic work well. It is acceptable to request a recommendation from a non-UW faculty member, instructor or employers if the student has attended other institutions in the recent past or are new to the UW. This form is sent automatically once you list contact information for your references in the online application.

Electronic Signature Documents Related to University Policies and Expectations for Study Abroad.

*** Following the on-line application process students may be contacted by the Program Director for an in-person interview, and transcripts may be requested.

Once an admission decision has been made regarding your application, you will be notified by the study abroad system via email. No course fees are due until after the student is accepted to the program and has signed a course contract.
