SITE DESCRIPTION

The John's Creek Watershed is located within the Hoodsport planning area in Township 24 North, Range 3 West on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula. You can see the position of the John's Creek Watershed in Figure 1.

Figure 1. The John's Creek Watershed is located within the Hoodsport planning on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula.

The Hoodsport planning area, owned by the Department of Natural Resources, was heavily logged 60-70 years ago. The area is now very homogenous, consisting of almost entirely Douglas Fir.

The John's Creek Watershed consists of two major branches of John's Creek. These branches connect just above the mouth of this watershed and then it feeds into the Hamma Hamma River. The elevation reaches a maximum of around 2700 feet within the watershed. Average rainfall is around 130 inches/year.
