Ulva (Sea Lettuce)
Phylum Chlorophyta, Class Ulvophyceae



*Ulva is a type of green algae (Phylum Chlorophyta), the algae that are more closely related to vascular, land plants than any other type of algae. Only 10% of Cholorophyta species are marine, the rest are fresh water.
*Ulva's vibrant green color can be attributed to the Chlorophylls a and b it contains.
*Its energy materials are stored in its chloroplast in the form of starch.
*Ulva is sometimes used as a food flavorant.
*Grows on rocks or on other forms of algae in all intertidal zones.
*Highly tolerant of changing weather and wave conditions.
*Recovers quickly from being dried out during low tides.
*Many small holes found in blades.
