Readings

The text for the course is T.L. Lemke, et al., Foye's Principles of Medicinal Chemistry, 6th Edition, 2008. The text should be consulted regularly for amplification of the lecture material.

Text Problem Sets

NOTE TO STUDENTS REGARDING CASE STUDIES AND QUESTIONS:
There are many exact pKa values that are used. You only need to know whole number pKas as we did in class. Also, there are many examples that calculate percent ionization. As I mentioned in class, you will not need to carry the calculations that far. I am only interested in the ratio of ionized/unionized or unionized/ionized forms.

Also, the text uses values for determining hydrophilicity and lypophilicity. I do not expect you to know those or use them in calculations, but do expect you to understand the general concept of which groups are relatively lipophilic vs. hydrophilic.
